HONEST JOHNS WHITE

RELEASE DATE:March 2010

Though too lengthy to list here, the blend this vintage is Riesling heavy, which is always a good thing, giving us refreshment and the pure tree fruit characters that the Okanagan grows so well. Fresh and refreshing; it simply tastes like more. See the tasting notes for a full list of the blend.

HONEST JOHN’S ROSE

RELEASE DATE:March 2010

A typical Rose giving all the good things you expect: refreshment, crisp structure, food versatility, strawberries(!), and a compelling urge to wear a beret and bicycle down to the river with your sweetheart to share a roasted chicken, some hard cheese, and a loaf of bread.

JACKPOT RIESLING

There are some very typical Okanagan characters in this wine, - particular for Riesling; tree fruit aromas and great stony, mineral characters. This wine also has bracing acidity which is fortunate if you plan to drink it with your dinner, or quaff it somewhere near its freezing level. This acidity will also help the wine age well; the fruit is certainly there to go the distance with that acid, and its minerality will only grow in its complexity over the years.

OLD VINES CHENIN BLANC

RELEASE DATE:MAY 2010

Just when a winemaker thinks he knows it all...along comes another vintage. For straight vintages this vineyard has produced Chenin with astonishing and predictable character. This vintage it is still astonishing but we've no idea where this extremely fresh Guava fruit character came from! The variable? It's the weather. Don't ask us how, but it must be.

SPARKLING CHENIN BLANC

NEW RELEASE

RELEASE DATE:Sept 1 2010

It tastes like Okanagan Chenin Blanc! A good thing bout Sparkling wine is that the second fermentation in bottle seems to magnify the varietal characters of any base cuvee. Consequently the characters are pineapple and roses and honey, and they are intense. There is a fair hit of acidity in this sparkler, but the intensity of fruit carries it easily. One important note; this wine was a learning project for Cellar Master Bailey Williamson to take on. Apparently he went from apprentice to master in a single vintage!

STEMWINDER

Stemwinder: A rousing political speech? Yes. Something that is first rate? Sure. A 19th century gold mine in the hills behind the winery? Damn straight! But Stemwinder is also a reference to what is most important to us - our soil. Stemwinder is the name given to our heavy, rich, and well-drained soils. We could go on ad nauseum about the grape varieties making up the blend of this wine, but these are secondary to making this wine special. It is the unique Stemwinder soil, located at our latitude in our desert climate that makes this wine what it is: delicious and rare.

ROCKPILE

The romantic name Rockpile can only be dreamed up by a farmer - in this case Mick Luckhurst - who refers to our rocky structured soils with this lovely moniker. It is this soil which contributes such character to this wine. Certainly the grape varieties give their mark to this blend, however, what makes this wine special is the place where it is grown; our unique soils at our northern latitude, in our desert climate. This wine is about place and structure; structure in the mouth, structure in the soil - the rocks!

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

JACKPOT PINOT NOIR

The growing practices to achieve this wine were, simply put, ridiculous to the extreme. Each vine was lovingly hand-tended through the entire growing season. Pumpovers during the fermentation of this wine were treated more like a religious ceremony than an industrial process. The malolactic fermentation and aging were conducted only in Bertranges forest oak barrels. In short, a lot of care went into this wine, and we think it will show in your glass.

JACKPOT SYRAH

Black Sage Bench sand heavily fortied with steer compost makes this wine. Clone 99 gives the wine peppers, sage, and tannin, while Clone 100 provides sausages, meaty, gamey flavours, and body. Viognier from the Golden Mile adds fruit, fruit, and more fruit. Ageing in traditional Burgundian as well as Hungarian and American thin stave barrels for only eight months preserves the pure Syrah flavour.

FIFTH ELEMENT

279 barrel lots in the cellar were considered for this blend; 26 were selected to build balance, elegance, and complexity. This is our best wine from this season. Five grape varieties, ruthless pruning, crop thinning and tight grained thin stave French Chateau Ferre barrels gave us a wine with softer, finer tannins, high toned aromas and greater cellaring potential.
